Heavenly Hearts

Your face is the easiest to distinguish, and the most common.  Your face is fuller at the temples and cheeks then narrows to a well defined chin.  Because the appearance of an oval is always our goal, then our area of focus will be to narrow the appearance of your forehead, and create the illusion of a wider chin.  Soft bangs swept to the side will draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones and away from your prominent chin.  You want styles with the most weight at or below the chin.  An example of this would be a chin length bob.  Wearing a bob the length of your jaw will make you chin look even smaller.  Hair that sits just above the shoulders with long soft layers that flip out away from your face is another great look for you.  If longer hair is what you are looking for, have your shortest layers fall at your chin.

Do's and don'ts to keep in mind:

  • Wear styles that add width to your narrow jaw
  • Wear a side part with bangs swept over to soften your forehead
  • Keep curly hair as long as possible to avoid bulky sides
  • Don't wear your hair shorter than the bottom of your chin
  • Don't wear your bangs off your forehead, you need them down
 
Celebrities with heart shaped faces include:

Scarlett Johansson pictured above, although her forehead is not as large as other hearts, it is still the widest part of her face, and her chin is relatively smaller than her forehead, making her a heart instead of an oval.

Cameron Diaz: a lot of people might think that Cameron's face is oval because her chin is not as pointy as other hearts, however she does have a smaller chin and a much wider forehead making her a definate heart. The softer bangs help hide her forhead, but the updo accentuates her small chin

Reese Witherspoon: On our main Celebrity Hairystyles page it is easy to tell that Reese is a heart.  With bangs swept to the side, and longer hair it's not as obvious here.

Jennifer Love Hewitt: Although this gal is gorgeous this is not the right style for her.  She has all her volume on top making her chin look really small.  She needs fullness around her chin.  Even just a few wispy bangs would have helped here.
